My Creative Path
A place to share my thoughts, Ideas, creativity and photography
Let Me Introduce Myself
Hi, my name is Lewis De Joseph and I am a photographer who started my photographic journey in film, took a small hiatus as the digital era erupted, and then returned as the dust settled. While I used to have a physical wet darkroom, I now have a digital darkroom.
More pictures of me than you ever wanted to see
What is it that drives me?
I fell in love with photography, as a child. Looking at all the hand printed black and white prints and negatives that my grandfather had left behind, I still have his twin lens reflex camera, leather case and a wood photo album that is reminiscent of the times.
I choose to capture things that captivate me, and share them. It’s not so much that I have evolved this passion into one genre, i.e. photojournalism, macro-close up work, portraitist, urban grunge, or landscape photographer. To me the passion is the magical process of capturing something I see and feel, in my surroundings, a moment in time, on a medium, and expressing it visually, for others.
So, you will see some landscape, macro and nature photos here, as I love being outside, hiking, and the natural world. You will see portraits, because I have always felt that I could connection with people. I love the visually strange and surreal, and it is Photoshop that enables me to create things that are just pictured in my imagination. You will see old buildings, ruins, city streets, the remains and the rubble of abandoned spaces. Mostly because I have an unexplained love for urban exploration, the exploration of abandoned, dilapidated man-made structures that have been abandoned and lay in ruins.
Here you will see my creative side. I am the sum of my entire existence. The beginning, middle and the end. And I hope you enjoy what I have offered to share with you here.
I am the sum of all things
I am the sum of all things, experiences, obsessions, encounters, and knowledge.
My environment and my genetics.
My failures and successes.
My confusion and understanding.
My indifference and emotional condition.
The total of my ego and id.
My heart and mind.
My spirit and soul.
My body and life source.
I’m a teacher and a student.
I am how I feel, and the front that I put on for people to read.
